Hi, everyone. I’m Tony Soares. And in this week’s Shark Bite, we’re going over the seven steps to improve your YouTube channel and growing your audience.

Excellent Video Quality Is a Must

It should go without saying that the quality of your videos are probably the number one factor for the success of your channel. Produce high quality, relevant content. Keep your video short, two to three minutes is a good length, and take care of your general aesthetics for the video.

Set a Time and Day

Just like TV, viewers reward consistency. If you have a set schedule, when your viewers like your content, they will subscribe to the channel, and then come back when they expect your new videos to be there.

A good idea is to create a trailer explaining your channel’s content and schedule. You place this video as your featured video on your channel, so visitors will know when and what to expect from you.

Tell YouTube What Your Video Is About

Think about your video’s titles and the way it’s tagged. Titles are very similar to titles and descriptions for a regular webpage. They are there to show YouTube what your video is about, so it can properly rank it based on the content you’ve provided.

Additionally, tagging is like meta keywords. The tags are there for you to write the different topics of your video. You want to use only tags that are relevant to what you’re explaining in the video, and keep the tags to a minimum.

Don’t Ignore Your Video Description

Step four is writing a high-quality video description. Most video creators overlook video descriptions on YouTube when they shouldn’t, because the reality is a lot of people read those descriptions. So make sure to at least have social media links or links to relevant information connected to the video.

Annotations: What? When? Where?

Annotations are great for growing subscriber bases, for moving people from one video to another, or for providing pertinent information about the video. The only things you should really remember for annotations is what, where, and when.

The “what” refers to a subscribe button, the next or previous video, or a link to an external information. The “where” is about where to place the annotation. It’s generally best to place them in the corners of your video, or on one side, instead of the center where it can block the person’s face. The “when” depends a lot on the content of the video.

For example, the Next and Previous buttons can run through the whole video, while a subscriber annotation should really be kept to the second half of your video.

Organize Your Videos With Playlists

Step six is creating video playlists. Video playlists are great for putting your videos in chronological order, or putting them in order of importance. When creating a playlist, you’re creating a nice video catalog of all the videos you’ve done under different categories so people can go video-by-video, all the way through.

Rinse and Repeat

Once you’ve done this for one of your videos, keep it up and do it for all of your videos. As I mentioned before, consistency is the most important factor to grow your YouTube channel.

Reach for the Stars

Growing your YouTube channel reach is quite simple. Follow these steps and point your channel’s growth in the right direction.
